We hope you enjoy this first issue of the Womens Ministry Newsletter, a service of Jennifer Rothschild Ministries and Oasis Communications. You should have received our Introductory Issue earlier. If not, you can see it posted on the web at www.womensministry.net/IntroIssue. As you read this newsletter it might be helpful to remember that "wm" is an abbreviation for "women's ministry." wmTip: PUBLICITY
We're honored to have an exclusive column from graphic designer Tisha Crews of Tallahassee FL. As the first of several publicity tips, Tisha explains how you can make your flyers and newsletters stand out. If you want your promotional pieces to grab the attention of your audience, you must start by having good CONTRAST in your design. Tisha explains how COLOR can create good CONTRAST in your publications.

Using Color to Create Contrast: We all know that black and white have the most contrast. So use lots of black and white on a b/w publication. The way you create CONTRAST in a b/w publication is to allow for lots of "white space" around your type and graphics in a b/w publication (more later). Many times you'll want to use a second or third color, other than black in your publications. Here's one way to choose color for your design. Pick a color, and then use its compliment. For instance, green is the compliment of red. Back in high school, your art teacher taught you that colors opposite each other on a color wheel are compliments (red/green, purple/yellow, blue/orange, etc.) Pick up a color wheel at any art store and you'll be on your way to terrific color combinations. When you understand that every hue and tint, no matter which one, has a different sort of weight, you'll find it easy to put together combinations that will make your publication go POW! Next time: Using SIZE to create CONTRAST. If you would like information on Tisha's design services, publication advice, or just to chat, call her at 850.942.2121, or email: aftermath@nettally.com

wmIdea: THEME IDEAS
Carol Cutler of Oklahoma City describes several theme ideas she has used to lead her women's ministry program at her local church. Carol shares valuable tidbits of what you can do to accentuate a theme for your monthly women's meetings. Based on a book called "Created for Commitment" by A. Wetherall Johnson, Carol developed the following themes for the months of September through November:

Concern for our Country,
Concern for our Children, and
Concepts for Christmas.
