wm HIGHLIGHTS
Beth Moore and Jennifer Rothschild teamed up for a third time at a recent women's conference held at First Baptist Church of Bartlesville, OK. Beth taught from her new material on "Forgiveness", while Jennifer led in worship and shared her story of God's faithfulness in the midst of blindness. See some of the photos of Beth and Jennifer at http://www.womensministry.net/Beth&Jennifer

wm Tip: TEAMBUILDING
Is your wm team weary, or lacking the enthusiasm they once had? Maybe they need a "pick me up." A great pick me up is to show your ministry team how their "work" is making a difference in the lives of others. Step 1.) Provide opportunities for those attending your events to share how your team's ministry is impacting them, or their family. Think about placing a brief evaluation or comments section at the bottom of one of your handouts. Or, at the conclusion of a program, spend a few minutes having women share popcorn testimony. Use simple open-ended questions like "what was most meaningful for you today," or "what did God teach you today."  Step 2.)Be sure to share the comments with your wm team (ex: bulletin board, email newsletter, etc.).  Posting comments on the bulletin board or in a newsletter will help volunteers make a link between their "work" and their "purpose". "Work" with no "purpose" is tedious; "work" with a "purpose" is inspiring.

Here are some of the comments we receive every day from friends like you. They remind us "why" the Womens Ministry Network exists. Tbey give us a sense of "purpose."

wm Tip: PUBLICITY
Last week I discussed how appropriate use of COLORS can create appealing CONTRAST in your printed publications. Two more ways to make your publications stand out is by using SIZE and SPACE effectively. Most of us assume that our "headline" has to be the most noticeable thing about our publication, and in some instances this is true. But if you want to get your publication
read, don't be afraid to grab someone's attention by using a large graphic. Chances are, people will take the time to read something they are drawn to. So what if it was a 10-inch purple peacock that made 'em look? Be creative. SPACE is another helpful way to create CONTRAST.  Ever notice how a bright white page with a small amount of black type catches your attention among all ads in a magazine. While you might say "I just have to include this information on my flyer", trust me when I say, "less is more." Here's why: large blocks of type become just like one big gray box in your publication. If you're in doubt, just hold up a typical newsletter at arms-length and then squint at it. You'll be seeing spots in no time. The remedy to this situation is to frame your work with a white border. Frame everything, including graphics. I don't mean that you should never let your elements touch, but it's easy to go overboard. Use plenty of white space, and consider whether it is essential to squeeze in one more line of type.   Next week, I'll share how choosing typestyles, or fonts, can create appealing CONTRAST when designing publications.

wm Tip: THEME IDEAS, Part 2
Carol Cutler highlights four more themes she has used in her local women's ministry. See Issue #1 for Part 1 at
http://www.egroups.com/list/womensministry-news/

January: Concentrating on Christlikeness in Character, Cooking and
Clothing. The speaker was from our church and she shared practical and inspirational ways to Walk with Christ, to cook healthy foods, and to purchase 2nd hand clothes. Everyone brought something very nutritious for a buffet.

February: Comprehending and Conforming to our New Creation In Christ.
A teacher from our church spoke about our new identity in Christ and how to put it into practice by faith. She used Bill Gillham's material from "Lifetime Guarantee" which is practical truth that frees the legalist to live by, and stand in God's grace. Wonderful! We had a dessert buffet. We used red hearts & flowers for deco.

March: A Ministry Expo. No March Meeting due to a ministry expo for the whole church. Each ministry in our church had a table set up in our conference room so that members could learn about, and volunteer to serve in their ministry of choice. Our women's ministry displayed pictures of our meetings, provided an informational flyer, and had women available to answer questions.

April: Continual Communion with Christ. Our speaker was a wonderful
lady who teaches a women's class at church. She spoke on practicing God's presence and prayer. Deco was spring flowers and bunnies.

May: Cultivating Closeness with Your Children. This was our annual mother/daughter/friend celebration. Mothers and Daughters sang duets. We dressed western and decorated with western things, sunflowers, etc. The food was pizza and we took up a love offering to cover the cost.

Remember, the Lord is our Creator and He has an unlimited supply of ideas. I make it a priority to write my requests down as I ask Him for guidance. He knows the needs of your individual churches. He will be faithful to give you great and exciting ideas if you ASK Him for them. He wants and waits to bless you too. His phone number is Jeremiah 33:3! Gripped by His love,

RECOMMENDED RESOURCE
You may want to consider Moody Press' book Women Mentoring Women by Vickie Kraft. I was just plain lost when I became president of wm at the church we had *just* joined. For a variety of reasons, I had no idea what to do, where to begin, or to whom I should turn. Reading Vickie Kraft's book was a huge help in keeping bewilderment at bay. A little over a year later, the ladies at my church seem to be pretty happy with the job I've been doing & the organization I've brought to our... organization! From msg-pb@mindspring.com
