1. FROM JENNIFER

Over the years, God has been so gracious to me - giving me
songs to write and record. One of the songs that has been
especially meaningful to me through the years is Honor
to the Player, because it speaks of my role in ministry.
As you reflect on your role in women’s ministry, consider
yourself a musical instrument – and God as the masterful player.
Your role and responsibilities may place you in the limelight,
or perhaps, you are the person behind  the scenes – seldom
seen or heard. Regardless, remember you and I are the guitar
– and God is the author and player of the song. We are but
instruments to be strummed as He pleases, and for His glory
and not our own.

We are the instruments He plays
We are the songs He loves to sing,
With His skillful, gentle ways
Each song becomes a lovely thing.

So give honor to the Player
For He plays a blessed song,
To applaud this old guitar
Is simply not where praise belongs,
Praise the Author of the song.

One of our subscribers conveys a similar message in her
well written illustration found below,  entitled We Are His
Workmanship. I was so blessed by it and I hope you are too.

2. wmUpdate: Weekly Tips and Call for Input

We’d really like to hear from you more often, and based
on your e-mails, you’d like to hear from us more than
just every two weeks. So we’re going to touch base
with you every week.

Here’s our plan. Every two weeks, we’ll send you the
Women’s Ministry  e-Newsletter – just like the one you’re
reading now  - with several tips, summary of events, and
other ideas. On the week between (usually Wednesday)
we will send you another email clearly marked as
“wmTip and Call for Input”. It will simply include one
quick tip you can put to use in women’s  ministry,
plus several e-mail links for you to submit one of your
ideas, tips, or what worked for you. We’re hoping
this will provide you a very efficient way to submit your
creative ideas, your questions, and even your opinions.
We want to know What Works and even, What Doesn’t
Work when it comes to women’s ministry.

This is our plan, now let’s practice.

If you think this is a good idea, say YES, by sending the
word YES back to us at comments
@womensministry.net.

If you don’t think this is a good idea, say NO, by sending the
word NO back to us at comments
@womensministry.net.

We look forward to hearing from you!

3. wmINSPIRATION: We Are His Workmanship

If you’ve ever felt like you haven’t prepared enough for your
meeting, or for your women’s bible study, remember this
story from one of our subscribers at ddavisborg@aol.com .

My husband and I teach children's Sunday school and have a
children's class on Wednesday evenings. This particular Sunday
morning I had managed to get up late, rush around, and make it
to service with only a few minutes to spare. All through praise
and worship I was thinking about the lesson that I had to teach
and wishing that I had found a way to make it more exciting for
the kids. Our lesson for the day was Ephesians 4:26 - "Do not
let the sun go down while you are still angry."  All I had for the
kids was a story and a few discussion questions.  Normally, we
have games and memory verse cards to go along with each
lesson.  That particular day there were only 6 kids attending out
of the usual 10 to 15. We went over our story and discussion and
played a few games. All the while, I kept thinking I had really let
God down today by not having an exciting lesson. The class was
over and the day went on and soon it was time for me to begin
thinking about the next week’s lesson. A few days later I went to
pick up one of our Sunday school kids from public school. When
she got into the car, she was talking about how her teacher had
made her mad by giving something of hers to the wrong person.
She said "Tomorrow I will really let her know how mad I am, and
she will be sorry". A thoughtful look came over her face and she
blurted out "Oh No, I can't do that. I can't be mad at her - Do not
let the sun go down when you are still angry!" Suddenly, I
realized that it doesn't matter how wonderful I think the lesson is--
as a matter of fact, I am just blessed to be God's instrument to
deliver His message. I am amazed and humbled by the awesome
power of His Word. It is not my message I am delivering, it is His.

4. wmQ&A:  CHILDCARE FOR BIBLE STUDY

 Joan Blossfield asks this question:

Hi, I'm the Women's Ministry coordinator for First Evangelical
Free Church in St. Louis, MO. We have about 175 women in
our Tuesday morning Bible Study program and 125 children
to care for. We have hired 10 paid childcare providers and
each woman volunteers for childcare one Tuesday morning
out of a 12 week session. We are still short workers, have put
announcements in our bulletin and made announcements in
our Sunday Schools. What are other women’s ministries doing to
resolve the childcare situation?

Do you have a solution?

5. wmTIP:  BIBLE STUDIES FOR TODAY’S WOMAN

Quite often in the past we have spoon-fed scriptures to our
women, thinking they would not put much effort outside of
class to study the Bible.  What we are seeing today is that
women are hungry for the meat of the Word and are willing
to dig for themselves and discover what God has personally
for them.

Through what we are seeing with Kay Arthur’s Precept
studies and Beth Moore’s video Bible studies, women
WILL do the outside work necessary to keep up with the
class.  What they are finding is that their lives are changed
by personally applying His Word.  Their relationship with
others changes as their relationship to Christ grows.

At times we fail to challenge our women thinking they
don’t have time to do an in-depth study that includes 30 to
45 minutes of study a day.  What we are actually
experiencing is that once they begin studying, they cannot
get enough.

A phenomenon is occurring among women today that
cannot be explained any other way except that it is the
movement of the Holy Spirit in the hearts and lives of
women.  They are tired of settling for less or settling for
what the world says will bring peace and happiness in life.
After attempting to have their needs met by worldly means
(and being unsuccessful), they are asking "What now?”
Women, we have the answer…and it is only Christ.

We must be ready as leaders to challenge our women to get
into the Word of God, learn what it says, and apply it to
their lives daily.  They are ready, but are we?  Find out
what studies are available.  Pray and ask God to lead you to
the study, time, place, and leaders.  Then allow the Holy
Spirit to draw the women in your church and community to
the Word.  He will do it!

7. wmParent Tip: by Cheri Fuller

Kids Need Security!

This week I want to pass on some wisdom I read long ago when
my kids were quite young that I think is just as applicable--
perhaps even more today--from John Drescher's book SEVEN
THINGS CHILDREN NEED concerning one of kids' top needs:

"A child craves security. He may cling to a security blanket, or
drag a teddy bear or rag doll with him wherever he goes. The
child has an inner need to be certain, to be safe, to have solid
ground under his feet. He experiences fear when the familiar is
not present. Healy and Bronner (experts on delinquency) say that
if a child's basic need for security is not met, he will be robbing
candy stores by the time he is eight."

Among the two top factors that build a child's sense of security,
Drescher points out (1) security & love between father and
mother: "Your baby will smile at you and later at the world if you
two never cease to smile at each other"...and love each other,
and (2) a rich and continuing love of parents for child. To feel
secure, a child needs to be held, hugged, and told he is loved.
"Love helps a child face whatever comes. A little fellow suffering
in the hospital was complimented on the way he was taking it.
'You can stand almost anything when you know your folks love
you,' he replied. When a child is secure in the love of his family
he can take the ridicule of peers. He can stand up to the pressure
of 'Everybody is doing it.' He can keep his head up when he loses
a game or an election at school. He can face whatever comes."
What wise words!

8. What Works for Us:  LADIES GAME NIGHT

Instead of the usual 'Get Acquainted Tea' with a speaker to
introduce women to our Women's Ministry, this year we had
Ladies Game Night. We set up tables for games and snacks in
the Fellowship Hall. Our game was a modified version of
Bingo, an easy to play, not necessary to expend intense
thought process, kind of game. The prizes were selected
by women in different women's organizations to depict
projects, lessons, or mission actions  emphasized during
the past year.  Everyone brought a favorite snack which
we placed in baskets on the table.  Whoever won the
game, called the next game. It was light-hearted fun and
a chance to get to know each other as well as what is
available in our ministry. Thanks Fanny Grote,
from Country & Town Baptist Church,
Mechanicsburg, PA  PN
