1. FROM JENNIFER
Since November is the month we reflect on things we

are grateful for, I thought I would share a few of mine.
I am grateful for a Godly grandpa who I stumbled upon
early one morning reading his Bible. I'm thankful for his
son, my father, who has been the single greatest example
of a servant leader. I'm grateful that he married my Mom.
Because of her, I learned to become a lady, and because
of her, my memory sees a palette of beautiful colors. I'm
thankful for the trees that shade my living room in the
afternoon - keeping my couches from fading. I'm thankful for
disposable diapers, the smell of leather, and the
feel of silk on my skin. I'm thankful for Joni, Katherine,
Lori, Deborah, and Tammer - and all the other friends God
has given me to walk with. I'm thankful that someone
decided to make a candle that smells like
hazel-nut coffee. I'm thankful that I enjoy green tea, in the
afternoon, with graham crackers - it's not a fattening habit!
I'm thankful for my two precious sons. My 10 year old, who has
taught me so much about the heart of God - and for my 11
month old, who keeps me seeking the heart of God!
I'm thankful for my husband, who types my newsletter,
paints my nails, checks my make-up, irons my clothes,
and makes me laugh. I'm even thankful for his stack of dirty
clothes piled on the closet floor...in front of the hamper -
it reminds me of how empty my life would be
if he was not around. I'm thankful I can hear a smile in a
person's voice, and for my piano, because it gives
me a voice.

I'm thankful for clearance sales and e-mail...which brings me to
this point. I am thankful for you - the almost three thousand
of you who subscribe to this newsletter. Each of you
represents a heart of ministry reaching the women in your
community - making a difference for Christ.

May each of us celebrate the ordinary, and be humbled by the

profound...and in all things be thankful.
Blessings, Jennifer Rothschild, Publisher

2. wmTip: Piggy Back Pays Off

Have you ever contacted a speaker or musician
for a women's event and found their fee or

travel expenses didn't fit into your women's ministry
budget. In that case, you might want to ask to be put
on their "piggy-back" mailing list. For example, Jennifer
has a separate e-mail list comprised of friends and contacts
that have a expressed an interest in booking Jennifer, but due
mostly to travel expenses, their budget wouldn't allow it.
Jennifer Rothschild Ministries uses this list
to let these friends know when she is in the area,

and when she might have an open night. For women's
ministries with smaller budgets, this is an ideal time to
"piggy-back" off another event. Because most travel expenses
are pre-arranged to be covered by the original hosting ministry,
the overall expenses to have Jennifer on the "open night" are
dramatically reduced.

So, two tips. If you are seeking to book a speaker, but you're
ministry budget makes it prohibitive, consider sending an email
or making a phone call to that ministry, and ask to be put on their
"piggy-back" mailing list.  Tell them you'd like to book them when

they are already in the area. And if you are a speaker, musician, or other
gifted communicator, consider creating a "piggy-back" list to
inform others when you are in the area, and when you might
have an open night available. You can inform people by email
or by a simple $.20 postcard. If you're like most speakers,
you want to optimize your ministry time - especially

when you are away from your family.

3. wmICEBREAKER: Poetry in Motion

Objectives:
To mix up the crowd at an informal event.  Number large
poster boards, or sheets of paper 1, 2, 3, etc. and then

print three totally unrelated words on them...like dishwasher,
Arabian horse and angora sweater, and put them on the
walls around the room.  Have all the ladies count off
(up to the number of sheets of paper) then have them
get with their numbers and go to the poster with their
group's number.  At the start of the timer they have 10
minutes to write at least a four line poem using all three
of the words on their sheet.  Have each group appoint a
reader, everyone else sit down and starting with one
read the 'silly poetry."  It's really fun!

Materials:
Poster boards, markers, women, sense of humor.

Procedure:
Just remember to try and break up the groups so that

there are even numbers in each group.   And it works
best if you use three kinds of things or words that are
very unrelated and do not rhyme with each other.

4. wmQ and A: Childcare For Bible Study RESPONSE

In our last issue, Joan Blossfield asked: What are women's
ministries doing to resolve the childcare situation? We
appreciate Becky Elhardt, Debbie Keck, Janet Roark,
Jill Savage and Suszanne Williams for their responses.
See the full responses at
www.womensministry.net/q&a/childcare.htm

Here are a few solutions that were provided:
- Solicit STUDENTS from career-technology institute/university
which has an early childhood program
- Solicit local high school for volunteers
- Solicit senior population for volunteers
- Utilize homeschoolers
- Place an ad in the newspaper

Remember: When you have a question that relates
to women's ministry, send it to us. We'll post it in
our newsletter and then share the responses in the next issue.

5. wmTIP: LEADING A MEETING-Before, During & After

Having difficulty organizing your women's group meetings?  Here
are 5 guidelines to help you lead your meetings more effectively
and efficiently.

1. Schedule the Meeting
When you schedule your meeting, consider the
information that must be covered, then allocate an
appropriate amount of time.  Cramming too much into
a 30-minute meeting can be frustrating for the attendees
but on the other hand, if you schedule too much time
the meeting may become slow moving.  Don't feel
pressured to fill an hour if you don't have an hour of
issues to cover.

2. Distribute the Meeting Information
If you distribute the meeting agenda to the attendees
before the meeting begins, it gives them sufficient time
to prepare for any discussions or decisions that will
occur during the meeting.  This saves time during the
meeting.  If attendees come prepared, less time will be
spent answering background information questions
and more time discussing the important issues.

3. Lead the Meeting
Start your meeting on time!  Begin when you said
you would even if not all of the attendees have arrived.

At the beginning of the meeting, provide and overview of
agenda items and introduce the overall objective of the
meeting.  This provides direction for the meeting and
reinforces what needs to be accomplished during this time.

It's your responsibility to keep the meeting on track.  This
means steering the meeting discussion in a way that
fulfills the meeting objectives.

Items that surface and must be addressed should be
assigned during the meeting discussion.  Assign a
particular individual or group to follow-up on each action
item.  You should also assign a deadline and priority
level for the action items.

4. Wrap-up the Meeting
At the end of the meeting, the leader should review the
action items, who's responsible and by when.

Once the meeting objective has been accomplished,
adjourn the meeting.  Even if it is thirty minutes earlier
than expected!  Don't continue the meeting simply
because that's what the schedule dictates.

5. Provide the Meeting Information
After the meeting is over, send the meeting information
to all participants.  Whether you provide the notes by
e-mail or photocopied handouts, sharing this meeting
information is vital for proper follow-up.  It's also a good
idea to include a summary of all the action items
assigned during the meeting.  This acts as a reminder
to all participants of who's responsible for what and
by when.

7. wmParent Tip: by Cheri Fuller

Mind-Stretching Problems
Use opportunities in real life to give your children problem-
solving practice. Let them help figure out how far apart to
space seedlings in the garden. When going on a weekend

trip, let your kids help plan and budget the money allotted for
activities. They can also help the driver navigate using
maps while enroute to your destination.
When you need to measure for carpet or wallpaper, hand
over the tape measure and have your child help. When you
have a household problem like how to keep the dog from
chewing the newly planted trees in the backyard, bring your
children into the discussion and look for solutions together.
You may be surprised at their creative suggestions, and
you'll be giving them great practice for thinking skills and
overcoming obstacles.

8. What Works for Us:  TEA CUP EXCHANGE

Our Ladies Ministry Team is coordinating our second annual
teacup exchange on the 13th. I must admit I took this idea
from another church that has been doing it for 10 years.

We use beautiful tablecloths, real napkins, beautiful
centerpieces, etc. to make this a special occasion. It is
held from 2-4 and the ladies are asked to bring a lovely
china or porcelain teacup. The cups are exchanged
and the ladies then drink tea from the cup they receive. We
have sandwiches, special deserts, etc. served by our
teenage girls. The book "A Cup of Christmas Tea" is read,
with some special music and a short devotional.

We used to have a Christmas banquet in December, but
this event in November worked very well last year. All year
long the ladies are looking for the teacup they will bring to
exchange. Since Tea is now so popular, you ladies might
want to try it.
