1. FROM JENNIFER

Today I hung up the phone after speaking to my mother, where she was
as usual, encouraging me with her kind words. She is always quick to
point out my positive attributes, and generous with her compliments. And
my response, as usual, was "well Mom, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree."

Moments after this phone call my 10 year old son entered the scene, after
a long day at school. He carried with him his backpack, and a less than positive
attitude - with words and facial expressions to match! Quickly the phrase
reawakened in my mind, "that apple didn't fall far from my tree!"

What a reminder that not only do our children learn so many of our positive
attributes, but they also pick up on so many of our weaknesses, and
negative attributes.

When I notice my "little apple" becoming slightly bitter, sour, or bruised, I
am reminded that I need to be like the tree ..."firmly planted by the rivers of
of water, bringing forth fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall
not wither...." Psalm 1:3

To be that kind of tree, my delight must be in His Word, and not in me,
or what pleases me. I want to be that kind of tree because I love my
Lord, but also because I love my little apples...that don't fall far from
the tree. May the Lord bless you and your ministry...and may you
remain "firmly planted by the rivers of water!"

2. Programming Tip: One Size May Not Fit All

In-depth Bible study is essential for a woman to grow in her relationship with
Christ, but offering only one level of study or just one format may limit the
number of women you will reach. Many churches offer different levels to
appeal to different levels of spiritual maturity. Perhaps you could offer a
new believer’s class to teach the basics of Christianity such as prayer,
Bible study, quiet time, and witnessing. You might also provide a short-
term study (4 to 6 weeks) to appeal to those not ready to commit to a
longer time frame. This is an effective way to provide a beginner’s Bible
study class.
As women grow they will more than likely be ready for a more
extensive study next time. For those who love to dig into the
word daily, offer the 10-13 week discipleship Bible studies which
require more individual study time as well as longer group
meetings each week. Remember that not all women will commit to
the same type of small group. Offering variety shows you care
about individual needs and lets each woman choose what is right
for her at each stage of her spiritual growth.
