1. FROM JENNIFER

As I sat down to write this column today, I did so with some Earl
Grey tea in one of my favorite tea cups.  It is affectionately called
my Katharyn cup!  You see, I love to drink teas and my friend
Katharyn gave me a lovely gift last year - it was a blue and white
floral tea cup with scalloped edges and a graceful fluted saucer.
It's amusing to me that every time I drink from this cup I think of her, I
thank God for our friendship, and I pray for her.  When I told
Katharyn that I pray for her each time I use her cup, she
chuckled and said, "Well, girl, I'm going to give you 364 more
cups because I need a lot of prayer!"

There are many things in our daily lives that should remind us
to pray and be thankful.  Maybe you have a special friend with
whom you would like to share a tea cup or coffee mug as a
reminder of your friendship.  Even though my friend and I are
1000 miles apart, when I pray for her as I drink from this blue
and white cup I am reminded that in our hearts we are very close.
Prayer has a way of connecting hearts regardless of distance.

Perhaps you may want to begin a friendship over a cup of coffee
or renew and reinforce a friendship by sending a tea cup in the mail!
What a warm and wonderful way to say "Let's walk together in
friendship and fellowship."

"I thank my God every time I remember you.  In all my prayers
for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership
in the gospel" (Philippians 1:3-5).

3. WHAT WORKS: VICTORY'S SECRET

During a retreat I led in late February, the womens' director
(Angela) carried out the theme, "Victory's Secret," by asking
each attendee to bring a bottle of her favorite Victoria's Secret
hand lotion (Victoria's Secret is a store--a nice one--that sells
women's intimate wear--also by catalogue).  During an ice-
breaker, we sat in circles of six, each with a bottle of lotion in our
hands.  Tied to the cap of each bottle was a paper with the name
of one of the attendees.  Angela turned on the music and we
passed the bottles around the circle.  When she stopped the
music we stopped passing and took turns reading aloud the
name attached.  Then we moved to find that individual.  She was
our prayer partner for the weekend and we exchanged prayer
requests.

It was a lovely way to blend the spiritual and the practical and
help people to get acquainted on the first evening.

4. TIP FOR BEGINNING A WOMEN'S MINISTRY: SUNDAY LUNCHEON

Many of our readers are looking for tips related to beginning a
women's ministry in the local church. One of the ways to build
momentum is by planning a women's event where most women
can attend. Well, how about planning a luncheon event
following Sunday morning services. You can take advantage of
large numbers of women already being there, dressed, and hungry!!
Husbands or friends can easily take the kids by a fast food
restaurant on their way home, and it's an easy option for
ladies who might be concerned about schedule or childcare.
Luncheons can be as simple or as extravagant as your budget
and time permit -- the focus should be on building a
foundation of fellowship and shared vision.  This will help build
a strong core group from which your ministry can grow and
blossom into other events.

5. PARENT TIP: TAP INTO YOUR CHILD'S CREATIVITY
Your home is the place creativity is born and the best place
for it be nurtured in your child. As you make room for individuality,
imaginative thinking, play, problem-solving, and even messes,
add generous does of appreciation, encouragement, and the
attitude that it's OK to make mistakes. You'll be keeping open
this precious window of opportunity in your child's life and paving
the way for a lifetime of creative thinking.

Creativity Boosters

* Photo fun. Provide an inexpensive camera, even a disposable
one, for your child to take photos.

*Create new games and holidays. With a game board made from
poster board using some markers, some pieces for moving around
the board, and a dice or spinner, your child can have hours of fun,
first creating the game and then playing.

* Make paper-bag puppets. Start with a paper bag and glue on
buttons for eyes and nose, yarn for hair, and trim made from
feathers, sequins, buttons, and scraps of fabric. Put up a tension
rod in a doorway, hang a pretty curtain, and presto--an easy-to-make
theater for puppet plays presented by the children.
