One of the most important factors to
having an impact through women's
ministry can be summed up in two words
--- Personal Touch. Today's churches are
filled with women who desperately need a
personal touch --- a simple invitation
to a bible study, Sunday School class or
women's event.
For a number of reasons many haven't
found their connection in church. These
women have varied backgrounds - recently
transferred from other areas or single
moms desperately trying to rebuild their
lives, others returning after a long
absence -giving church a second chance
after a negative experience, finally
those who are unchurched.
Different backgrounds yes but they
have the same need - they want to feel
connected to something meaningful. As
women in ministry, God has placed us in
the perfect position to meet that need.
However it requires a Personal Touch and
it must a top priority.
Go For It Information with a personal touch
Create and design a flier or brochure
which includes dates, times and
locations of up coming bible studies,
Women's Ministry Events, Retreats,
opportunities to serve, Sunday School
Classes or Home Groups.
Include in the flier a personal
note from the director or the
women's ministry team. Have the note
emphasize to the reader their value to
the body of Christ and that there is a
place for them. Mail the flier to every
woman in your church, post it on your
church web site and insert it in the
newsletter or church bulletin at least
once.
Go To Girls
Provide several names and numbers of
women who can answer questions and add
details. Be sure to have greeters at
events to help newcomers become
acclimated and feel comfortable. Select
women who are personable and well
informed.
Go Forth
Also provide extra copies for women to
keep in their bibles, if they see a
woman they don't know they can introduce
themselves and ask did you received the
information about what's going on in our
women's ministry?
This simple question eliminates the
concerned whether the person is a member
or visitor.
If the person didn't receive the
information they have made a valuable
connection and the door to communication
has been opened.
Three years ago, we relocated and were
looking for a new church it was a
difficult process... church is a high
priority for our family. We weren't just
looking for a church but a church family
as well.
When leaving one Sunday, a sweet woman
stepped forward-and personally invited
me to a meeting and offered to sit with
me. Her kindness made all the
difference. If she was a reflection of
her church family - I wanted to be a
member. We later joined.
At your events if possible get the names
and addresses of first time attendants.
Follow up with a card. If you have them
fill out prayer request, have a team
member follow up with a personal note of
encouragement to let them know that you
are praying for them.
Because we live in such a hurry up,
see-you-later world making the
connection is hard. But a personal touch
can make all the difference in the
success of your ministry.
This event was originally designed as
a kick-off event, but the theme can be
used for a variety of types of events.
Theme: Our theme was really a
question... "How would you dress if you
could wear what you want each and every
day... what would you wear?"
Based on: Our uniqueness, the way
we are "wired." We wanted women to
recognize how unique they are; that they
are created in the image of our heavenly
Father; and honor Him by being
transparent.
We encouraged women to come to the event
wearing an outfit that expressed who
they are. This was incredible! We had
women in work-out clothes, sweat bands,
tennis shoes, tennis outfits; swim wear
with appropriate coverup skirts,
carrying beach bags and sunglasses; many
ladies in colored T-shirts and old pair
of jeans; even formal wear - one lady
wore a formal gown!
Seeing the variety of outfits was a
visible reminder of how uniquely God has
made each woman. The women spent a lot
of time visiting (and laughing) as they
talked about the outfit they had chosen
and why.
During the event we watched a video by
Anita Renfroe, a Christian
comedienne, and laughed some more. We
served finger foods and had a totally
delightful evening.
One of the best outcomes from the event
was that the relationships the women
started, spilled over into their lives.
At other events or even at church, the
women would say "I remember you, you
were the one in the hot pink T-shirt and
jeans."
