FAVORITE BIBLE STUDIES
BEGIN BELOW
Title: There is a
Season
Author: Laurie Cole
Publisher: Priority Ministries
Length of Study: 10 weeks
Three Reasons you liked it:
Contentment - In this study you will learn both through scripture and
Laurie's endearing story telling how God would have us to be content in
every season of our life, even the hard winters when there is no
happiness
to be found.
Perspective - This study helped me look back as I did a chart of
major
events in my life and see the highs and lows with the perspective of
time
and maturity.
Application - This study allowed me to assess current and future
difficult
times in my life in light of what purpose God has for me, or how he
intends
to use me during this hard time.
Title:
Loved By God
Author: Liz Curtis Higgs
Publisher: Sampson Resources
Length of Study: 7-8 weeks
Three Reasons you liked it:
Liz is different -- not skinny or glamorous, but simply and
profoundly one of the best Bible teachers around. With humor and
honesty she tells the story of a dysfunctional family -- Isaac,
Rebekah, Jacob and Esau -- in a way that has our women of all ages
and backgrounds laughing, crying, reading their Bibles and coming
back for more.
Title:
Beautiful Offering
Author: Angela Thomas
Length of Study:
7-8 weeks
Publisher: Lifeway
Three Reasons you liked it:
Our lives can be a Beautiful
Offering to God. Angela teaches from the
Sermon the Mount in a way that helps women connect with the
beatitudes and apply Jesus' words to our daily lives. The theme song
by Kelly Minter is gorgeous and we sang it every week.
We ended this Bible study with a special time of worship, asking
women to lay themselves on the altar. Life-changing.
Title:
40-Day Journey to the Heart of God...an Adventure in Prayer
Author: Tammy M Price
Publisher: VMI Publishing
Length of Study: 10-12 weeks
Three Reasons you liked it
1-Every thought and point is weaved
with multiple Scriptures (1000+in book), stories, and how to apply them
to your life
2-She focuses on Christ's Spirit being
your Teacher, learning to listen to God AND continues this teaching by
her weekly email devotional (sign up on website)
3-Four days of homework each week,
focusing on a prayer partner contact for day 5
Title:
He Speaks to Me - Preparing to Hear from God
Author: Priscilla Shirer
Publisher: Lifeway Church Resources
Length of study: Seven
1. Priscilla Shirer has not only hit on a topic of great necessity in the
church, but women specifically. Unfortunately, the world's voice has
dictated loudly who and what women should be in today's society. God on
the
other hand, speaks softly. She emphasizes how to position ourselves to
hear
from God personally.
2. Priscilla Shirer is dynamic in her presentation, uncompromising in her
information, and she allows the studier to experience the full range of
emotions from joy and laughter, to sadness and pain, gently tearing down
the
barriers seperating us from the voice and will of God. She speaks to the
reader and/or listener at multi levels so that everyone can learn and
grow.
3. Often, the cost of Bible Studies with video presentations are too
costly
for an individual to purchase. This study can be used for groups or
individuals because she has not only the DVD/workbook version, but she has
transcribed her DVD's into book form w/ workbook version, meeting the
needs
of a multitude of ladies.
Author: Beth Moore
Publisher: LifeWay
Length of study:10 or 11 Weeks
3 Reasons I like it:
1. It so deeply spiritually motivating; it is a WAKE
UP CALL!
2. It brings personal revival
3. It is the Word of God
Title: The Amazing Collection
Author: Pat Harley, Eleanor Lewis, Linda Sweeney,
Margie Ruether
Publisher: Big Dream Ministries
Length of Study: 66 weeks
Reasons I Liked It:
1. This journey through the entire Bible "book by
book" allowed me to see the "big picture" of God's Word. It gave
greater understanding when I began a single book study.
2. The four teachers are full of energy and passion
for God's Word. Each book has a woman's testimony that leaves you
rejoicing and an original music video that sends you away singing His
praise!
3. My group had seasoned believers, new believers
and those who never opened a Bible and we all saw it fit together in an
amazing way.
Title:
Life in the Spirit
Author: Robertson McQuilken
Publisher: B&H
Length of Study: 10 Weeks
Mr. McQuilken is a
gifted teacher who has passionately assembled Scripture and added insight
to the often misunderstood and misrepresented Holy Spirit. This 10 week
study is packed with to the point Scripture, practical instruction and
structured applications throughout. I was truly blessed with his personal
stories and gentle demeanor. This study should be a requirement on the
list of every Believer’s study list. Toward the end of the 10 weeks, Mr.
McQuilken encourages us to ask God for the greater gifts and to
prayerfully set goals and purposefully put those goals into action.
A very organized thinker
with a humble heart for God – what a wonderful combination!

Title:
Wisdom for Mothers

mothers have and the study allowed me to come closer to God.
Title:
Fingerprints of God
Author: Jennifer Rothchild
Publisher: LifeWay
Length of Study: 7 weeks
Three Reasons you liked it:
1. I am going through some difficult
times in my life right now and it has hit some places in my life that I
really needed to hear as I have listened to the lessons.
2. I like the length of the DVD's - they are short
enough to keep your attention yet long enough to get the point across.
3. Jennifer is so gifted and I love how she makes
things so simple and brings them down to earth.
Author: Nancy Leigh DeMoss & Tim Grissom
Publisher:Moody Publishers
Length of Study: 12 weeks
Three Reasons I Like the Study:
1) This study transformed my life from the inside
out.
2) During the course of this study, I was lead by
the hand into the very presence of a Holy God and have found myself
longing to be holy as He is holy.
3) It gave me a proper perspective on what revival
really is - a complete transformation of His Church, one heart at a
time.
Title:
Walking in the Truth
a
companion study guide to "Lies Women Believe and the Truth That Sets Them
Free"
Authot:
Nancy Leigh DeMoss
Published by: Moody Publishers
Three
reasons you liked it:
1. It
was a twelve-week study but we actually allowed more time on certain
chapters so that the women could fully discuss what was on their heart.
2. It
was very powerful in the fact that it brings us back to the Divine design
and plan of God. It was difficult at best as many of us have been
so "steeped" in our culture and had a hard time eliminating all the "buts"
and "what ifs". It was so very good at helping us to see Satan’s age old
process of deception and through prayer we were able to apply that
knowledge to twenty-two of the common lies that Christian women in
American today fall into. As leader I had to keep reminding the women
that Ms. DeMoss' intent was not to convince them of any particular opinion
but to get them to study God's Word and allow God to open their hearts and
minds to His Truth and then applying it to their individual lives as the
Holy Spirit lead.
3.
Many of the women gave testimony of how it had impacted them in positive
ways although it was a struggle. But isn't that just like our Heavenly
Father, not sparing the difficult or painful so that we will be more like
Jesus! AWESOME!
Title:
Captivating
Author:John
and Stasi Eldredge
Publisher:
Nelson Books
Length of
Study: Twelve Weeks
Three Reasons you liked it:
1. It
helped me understand my woman heart... what it desires and needs and why.
2. It
lifts you out of the hum drum of drudgery and gives you the ability to see
the significance of your life from His point of view.
3. Our
ladies were impacted in different ways depending on where they were in
their spiritual journey. Some understood for the first time how much God
loves them and that they matter to God. Others discovered the reasons
behind behavior they didn't understand and were challenged to seek further
healing. Still others of us were drawn to become those that, by living out
who we are in Christ with the world become living invitations,
captivating, beautiful...warriors fighting for the hearts of those around
us.
We
followed this study with the study "Waking the Dead; The Glory of a Heart
Fully Alive", also by John Eldredge.
1-Every thought and point is weaved
with multiple Scriptures (1000+in book), stories, and how to apply
them to your life
2-She focuses on Christ's Spirit being
your Teacher, learning to listen to God AND continues this teaching by
her weekly email devotional (sign up on website)
3-Four days of homework each week,
focusing on a prayer partner contact for day 5!
Bible Study:
"Breaking Free--Making Liberty in Christ a Reality in Life"
by Beth Moore
Publisher: LifeWay Press, Nashville, TN
Length of Study: 10 weeks
Reasons:
*I love this study because you don't study a particular character, you study
yourself. Also, I love the aspect of breaking free from bondages that hinder our
relationship with Christ. Lastly, the study takes you through books of both the
Old and New Testament.
*I would strongly recommend Breaking
Free by Beth Moore. I am presently going through it in my own personal study life
and it is the most awesome study I have ever done. I believe it is something
vitally important for women to know what it means to live freely in Jesus!!
*It is so meaty in the scriptures--plus Beth's own life is a ministry. Many women literally
set free during this study.
*Three reasons why I recommend Breaking Free: 1.
Great Topic (breaking the chains of bondage); 2. The author is fantastic, easy to read and
understand, she makes the point clear; 3. God has really blessed myself and the other
ladies who have taken this study.
Bible Study:
"A Heart Like His"
by Beth Moore
Publisher: LifeWay Press, Nashville, TN
Length of Study: 10 weeks
Reasons:
* Three Reasons I recommend this
study: 1) It has meant a lot in my life at this time. My husband and I are going to plant
a church; and although the study of
Paul seems to be more suitable for
that (I'm doing it next), this one really has spoken to me and my situation before we
leave. 2) Even though it's long, I like that. 8 weeks would be better, but I like the
length of each day and the depth it has. I'm not one for the short paragraph
devotions out of a book. I like the meat of
God's Holy Word. This study gives you that. I've been tempted to go to the next day to
just do more and more. But one day has plenty
for you to digest and think on, and things in each day that God can really speak to you
about. 3) My eyes have been open more than
ever to the life of David and God's Word! It has been a tremendous experience. The life of
David has given me hope and encouragement, knowing that God will be there and His
timing is perfect! I've told everyone I know and talked about it in many of my
conversations with others.
*Three reasons I liked it: 1) The
daily homework developed long term habits in the lives of the women. 2) The study was
focused, yet you felt you really knew the material thoroughly. 3) The material was geared
towards women and lended itself to good discussion.
*A Heart like His is one of the best Bible Studies that I have led, and I have
taught a lot of studies. I felt like this one
was overflowing with "meat" from God's word. I am planning on teaching it
again in the fall.
*Three reasons I liked it: 1) It called me back to the Lord and
to a relationship that resembled David's and God's. 2) It is an Intermediate level - not
too hard, not too easy. 3) It has good videos and generates class discussion.
Bible Study:
"A Woman's Heart: God's Dwelling Place"
by Beth Moore
Publisher: LifeWay Press, Nashville, TN
Length of Study: 10 weeks
Reasons:
*Three Reasons I liked both A Heart
Like His and A Woman's Heart: God's Dwelling Place are: 1) Beth Moore is a very
spiritually gifted teacher. 2) The studies can be done either in video form or study
book form. Both studies can stand alone or be
done together (ie, watch the video one week and discuss the book the next, etc.).
3) The study books are very, very deep. I get so much out of the Word when I do her
study. (ALL BETH MOORE'S STUDIES ARE
FANTASTIC! I'M GETTING READY TO DO "Living Beyond Yourself: Exploring the
Fruit of the Spirit".) Give her a try if
you haven't seen or heard her already.
Other studies and reviews about Beth
Moore:
Bible Studies:
"To Live is Christ"
"Living Beyond Yourself: Exploring the Fruit of the Spirit"
Reviews:
*The best Bible studies for us have been the Beth Moore studies with video in the first
hour and small group during the second hour. These have changed the lives of our
women.
*We continue to go back to Beth
Moore resources after trying other studies.
*The Beth Moore workbooks are designed so that you retain so much of what you have
studied. I have never learned so much about the Old Testament!
*We have done and love all of
Beth Moore's Bible Studies
published by Lifeway. They are all an in-depth study for 10 wks with a workbook and
a video lecture with each week's lesson. They are all excellent! We are anxiously awaiting
her next one that I understand will be out in Dec. 2000.
Bible Study:
"Experiencing God"
by Henry Blackaby and Claude King
Length of Study: 12-16 weeks
Reasons:
* 1) Life-changing; 2) Takes you
into a deeper walk than you've ever experienced; 3) You find yourself craving the next
session to see what God will reveal to you.
*I recommend Experiencing God because I think it is life changing for both men and women.
Bible Study:
"Walking by Faith"
Author: Jennifer Rothschild
Publisher: LifeWay
Length of Study: 7 weeks

incredible teacher, and inspiration.

Bible Study:
"Fingerprints of God"
Author: Jennifer Rothschild
Publisher: LifeWay
Length of Study: 7 weeks
Three Reasons you liked it: 1.) Very doable study. 2.) Challenged us to
not only recognize God's touch, but to extend God's touch. One of the
first times our bible study group actually put our learnings to work in
serving others. 3.) Jennifer has unique power, and grace in her
delivery.

Bible Study:
"What Happens When Women Pray"
by Evelyn Christenson
Publisher: Chariot Victor
Length of study:12 weeks
Reasons: 1) It is a Bible study that brings the Scripture to your everyday life. The author shared her experiences as a teacher,
but also the experiences of those she taught. 2)
It was easy to lead the women into this dimension of following God because their own fears
and inhibitions were addressed. 3) It is a
study that I have been able to use in a small group setting as well as C.L.A.S.S. seminar
involving hundreds of ladies.
Bible Study:
"Lord I Want to Know You"
by Kay Arthur
Length of Study: 17 weeks
Reason: I recommend this study because of the lives I
have seen changed when people realize who God is and how His names/roles apply to their
lives.
Bible Study:
"Loving Your Husband"
by Cynthia Heald
Length of Study: 8 weeks
Reasons: The three reasons I like this study are: 1) It helps us to think of our marriage
as a ministry. 2) It helps us to ask God to change us instead of always asking God to
change our husbands. 3) My husband always says I'm nicer to him when I am leading this
sudy!
Bible Study:
"Heaven Your Real Home"
by Joni Eareckson Tada
Length of Study: 7 sessions with a video tape of 7 brief vignettes that relate to each
week's study.
Bible Study:
"Search for Significance"
by Robert McGee
Length of Study: 12 weeks
Reasons: It gives a good biblical understanding of justification, reconciliation,
propitiation, and how the Holy Spirit is the agent of change in our lives. It is an excellent study for small groups or
mentoring one-on-one. I purchase these books
by the case and I recommend that every woman in your church go through it.
Bible Study:
"Intimate Issues"
by Linda Dillow and Lorraine Pintus
Publisher: Waterbrook Press
Length of Study: 12 weeks
Reasons: Intimate Issues 1) provides refreshing answers to questions Christian women have
about sex. 2) It reveals eye-opening
information about the link between physical intimacy and spiritual intimacy. It gives new realization that God intended for sex
to be more than a bodily function or a recreational activity. 3) It offers new hope to those who feel they have
already "blown it," and it uses Scripture to teach God's reasons for sex.
Bible Study:
"Caught in the Middle"
by Beverly Bush Smith and Patricia DeVorss
Reasons: Last fall I started a small group through the Women's Ministry with unequally
yoked women. It was the biggest response the church has ever received for a small
group. We went through Caught in the Middle
by Beverly Bush Smith and Patricia DeVorss. There were questions for further study
and mediation at the end of the chapters. It is very balanced and an excellent
survival guide for women with unsaved or barely believing husbands. It is a practical, tell-it-like-it-is,
here's-how-I-keep-going book based on the experiences of scores of wives of nonbelievers
and barely believers.
Bible Study:
"Vision for His Glory"
by Anne Graham-Lotz
I loved this study because:
1) it demystifies Revelation--I'd
always just wanted to ignore the book except for reading Left Behind
novels. I didn't see how it could apply to my life. 2)
format--Scripture is taken in 5 personalized steps. 3) It is deep, life
changing, giving you a format for study that can be translated to any
book or passage of Scripture, and it
applies the
Scripture to my life and makes me do something about it!
