Name
of Event: Mother-Daughter Tea
Theme is-"Treasures of Encouragement"
Purpose : For the mothers and daughters to learn because of who they are in Christ they
are "Treasures of Encouragement" to others, in the body, in the family and in
the community. We also wanted to involve as many women as possible to help them to feel
more a part of Women's Ministry and to become connected through this event. And the
gospel is always presented since many who come are not believers. All women are encouraged
to attend and to invite mothers, daughters, aunts, etc. The more the better.
Description: We publicize the event through handouts, verbal announcements and in the
weekly bulletin. This year we asked the ladies to pick up a free ticket for each person
attending the event in order to prepare the correct amount of food. The tickets are
numbered and we'll draw for an attendance prize.
Our team has been studying the book "Treasures of Encouragement" this year and
we gave our speaker a copy to prepare her message. The speaker is a life-long friend of
one of the ministry team members and speaks to groups as part of her ministry. Several months ago we had a guest who did
special music one Sunday and we asked her to share her talent with us again at the
Mother-Daughter Tea.
Unbeknownst to us, the speaker and the singer attend the same church!
I wrote a short drama
skit that shows the difference between advice the world
offers women and the encouragement a Godly women can give. Three young women from our body
are doing the skit. I gave up control of that and totally am trusting God for the results.
We have 3 games planned to break the ice. Two are just word games for each one to
do. We'll award 1st and 2nd places prizes. The group trivia game will be played during
lunch. Every 5 min a new question will be asked and each person at the winning table
will get a prize. We have prizes that are for under 8, 8-14 and adult. We've asked a women
to be the game person, so none of the team has to be busy with that.
We'll have several congregational
songs lead by the MC, who is also a very young women . As the Women's Ministry leader,
I'll thank all the helpers and give them each a small thank you gift and close in prayer.
We have asked several women and young ladies to help serve lunch. Lunch will be
served during game time and it consists of chicken salad, muffin , fresh fruit and fancy
desserts. We'll have a drink table with
coffee, tea, and punch, served from a silver service . We have real tablecloths but use
lovely, hi grade paper products for all other purposes. Each table will be decorated
with a fancy gift bag shaped like a flower( roses, tulips, mums, etc) and in the bags
lined with pastel tissue paper, we'll set a vase of fresh flowers . Small votive candles
at each table will complete the setting. Each table will have a hostess who has
agreed to various jobs through out the event, including clearing off the table and
putting away chairs. We're using a garden arch at the entrance and some lattice work
to dress up the speaker platform. We are borrowing some other decorations from a recent
wedding to add an elegant touch to our fellowship area. The event will last 2 hours and
about 80 will attend. It is the highlight of our Women's Ministry year and we try to
really pamper the guests. Some of our past themes have been....Where your hat were you're
at, A garden party, Memories of yesterday. Each year we do different things, so the ladies
never
quite know what to expect!
Membership: We have about 125 members with a regular attendance of about 180-200 a week
and growing!!
