Ministry: B.A.G.S.
Karen True

Nolan Bushnell, founder of Chuck E. Cheese Pizza, said "Everyone who's ever taken a shower has an idea. It's the person who gets out of the shower, dries off and does something about it who makes a difference." We're all about sharing the good ideas we come across. The best part of all is getting to hear from people like you who do something about it...and make a difference.

It makes our day when you share an idea with us because we get to pass it along to the thousands of women who check in with us, and together, we get to change the world. More often than not, real change takes place when we do small things that God uses in a big way. This week, we have just such an idea. Some friends at church shared this one with me, and now I'll pass it along to you.

B. A. G. S.

Know what that stands for? Be A Good Samaritan. Clever! This is a ministry idea that anyone can begin with a little shopping and some zip top bags. Follow the simple steps below, and you will be on your way to becoming a Good Samaritan.

  • BUY...the following items: gallon-size zip top bags, bottled water, granola bars, cheese/peanut butter crackers, toothbrushes, toothpaste, socks, liquid soap, small New Testaments, etc.
  • ASSEMBLE... the items in zip top bags, and stow them away in your car within reach of the driver's seat.
  • GIVE... a bag to anyone who asks for food, money, work, etc.
  • SAY... that you will pray for them...and then do it. Ask their name. Let them know that you are giving the bag because God has given to you, and you want to give to them.
Our family does this, and we've found that giving some thought to caring for someone who is more accustomed to being an object of scorn makes a big impact. We talk with those we give the B. A. G. S. to and look them in the eye to share the love of Christ.

Now, we said we're all about sharing ideas, and we're asking you to share this one with the women in your ministry. To help you along, we've put together a flier you can download, print and pass around. Let's get busy!

Download B. A. G. S. Flier

A few ideas for putting this idea to work:
  • Tell a friend by sending this newsletter to them via email.
  • Assemble several bags and make them available at church for $5 each to cover costs.
  • Print the flier download and pass them around. Share them at church and with neighbors. See if local business will let you leave some at their cash desks. Be creative, and think about how you can pass this idea along!
Jesus said a cup of cool water given in His name matters. I'm pretty sure the blessing applies to bottled water too! So spread the news, and let's change the world.
