Event: Gab and Grab
Ruth Cusick

It's tough for women who are busy serving to find a way to connect, so we decided to host this simple event to provide just such an opportunity. We like this event because it is low maintenance and very purposeful. The women like it just because it's fun.

Description: This is a gathering to allow for ladies to come out have fun and build meaningful relationships with other women. We hosted this event to provide a way for our busy women to get together while also reaching out.

Program: Everyone was invited to bring items that were still in excellent condition but could also be donated. Everything was put on display as the women arrived with their contributions.

We watched Girlfriends from the Women of Faith series and had a great laugh together. The message of the video worked so well because it emphasized that we need friendships. This was followed with the icebreaker called, Truth is Stranger than Fiction. This was a great get to know each other time that everyone enjoyed.

One of our women share a 10-minute devotional called, "How long has it been since you had a good gab session with the Lord?"

After talking about the "gabbing," we went to the "grabbing." Women could go "shopping" at the tables of donated items, and we donated everything that remained. This was a fun way for women to share their treasures without having to spend any money.

We hosted this in the fall, so we used this is our theme for decorations.

Ruth Cusick is the Women's Connection Director at St. Thomas Penecostal Assembly Church in St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada. She is also married to the pastor and has served in women's ministry for about 30 years.
