From Jennifer: Happy and You Know It
I had the privilege of speaking at a women's conference in Breckenridge, Colorado recently. I speak at many events but I was especially intrigued by what I experienced at this one. I don't think I have ever seen such an obviously unique group of ladies. They were...HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY. Happy? Should that be so unusual? I know what you're thinking, "If I were in the mountains of Colorado, I'd be happy too!" It's not that the groups of women I meet across the country are sad or grouchy - it's just that I've never met such a happy bunch. My traveling companion and I were over an hour late, they smiled and laughed at our story of delays in the airport. The sound system wasn't working properly, they smiled, laughed, and expressed an attitude of "it could be worse". In women's ministry, sometimes we are so task oriented, so focused on all of the details to create a "spiritual experience" for the women in attendance, that we miss the laughter, the smiles, and yes, even the humor in our fallen plans. To anyone else out there who may be like me, a first born, Type A personality, with a penchant for details and control - remember to flip open your compact, look in the mirror, and remind your face to smile. Do you know the actual theme of the Colorado retreat was "Don't Worry, Be Happy"? Remember: A merry heart does good, like medicine, But a broken spirit dries the bones. Proverbs 17:22
