Event: Christmas Tour of Homes

We combined the idea of a home tour with a progressive dinner, and the end result was a delightful evening of holiday fun. This event can also be used as way to raise funds and/or awareness for a local charity.

The first Saturday in December is our annual "Christmas Tour of Homes." Each year, we pick an area of town where three women from our church agree to host this event in their homes. The event begins at the first home where we enjoy beverages, and the ladies have a chance to mingle while drinking hot chocolate, spiced tea, etc. The second home offers appetizers while the ladies sit and chat. The last home provides desserts where we have a variety of homemade goodies and coffee. We end the evening by singing a few Christmas carols together and then enjoy a short Christmas-themed devotional led by one of our women.

We ask everyone who wishes to attend to sign up in advance and provide sign-up sheets at the church. In some cases, it could be good to provide a place to sign up online as well. We also arrange for volunteers to help with food at each home and recommend that they deliver food to the hostess by noon on the day of the event. It's helpful to have volunteers on hand at each home to help with serving and clean up. The evening begins at 6:00 and ends by 9:30.

We charge $10 per person, and all the money is donated to a local charity. You could also set the price of admission as three cans of food, which would be donated to a food bank or local shelter. We always have a great turnout and it is one of our favorite events.
