Icebreaker: Open the Door

It can be a challenge to get the ball rolling in a small group. Retreats, events and new Bible studies each present opportunities for women to get to know each other, but they might just need a little help getting started.

With everyone sitting around a table or in a circle, give a door knob to one person in the group. giving them each a chance to answer a question. Place the following questions written on strips of paper in a basket on the table. The person with the door knob chooses a question, answers and then passes the door knob and the question to the next person until all have answered. Then begin again with a new question.

  • My favorite color is...
  • My favorite food is...
  • My earliest childhood memory is...
  • In my spare time, I like to...
  • I hope to travel to...
  • I grew up in...

Go around the group a couple of times with the general questions and then ask each woman to answer the question: "What doors has God opened for me?" (Variations: What doors have I closed on God?, What doors has God reopened in my life?)

Really, the questions are limitless. This is a fun way for women to get to know each other without feeling threatened.
