B.L.E.S.S. and the National Day of Prayer
Karen True

The Bible has plenty to say about walking. Scripture points out with admiration that, “Enoch walked with God.” (Gen. 5:24) So did Noah. (Gen. 6:9) God made a bold promise when He told Joshua, “I will give you every place where you set your foot.” I find daily reassurance in knowing that, “A man's steps are directed by the Lord.” (Pro. 20:24)

Knowing that God directs our steps and that many before us have spent a lifetime on pilgrimage with God gives us reassurance and hope that we walk through life with eternity on our heels. So why not spend a few of those steps prayer walking through our neighborhoods, apartment buildings, dormitories or beach front properties? (Okay, I'm dreaming here!)

The first part of this week's tip is a helpful acrostic that will guide you along as you prayer walk to B.L.E.S.S. your neighborhood. The second contains helpful links related to the 59th annual observance of the National Day of Prayer and a special announcement about the way we plan to highlight this significant day.

Praying for our Communities: B.L.E.S.S.

As you prayer walk your neighborhood, it's helpful to have some thoughts to guide your prayers. Since the purpose of praying for those who live around the corner is to bless them, this simple tool will help you stay focused on this goal while you pray.

Bodies: Pray for health, strength and healing.
Learning: Pray for children in school.
Employment: Pray for provision for all financial and material needs.
Seeking: Pray for hearts that seek after God.
Social: Pray for strong family and community relationships.

Praying for Our Nation: The National Day of Prayer

The National Day of Prayer is only 63 days away (May 6), so this is the perfect time learn more about how you can prepare to lead your women in observing the National Day of Prayer this year. There are plenty of great resources on the NDP site. Here are a few links to help you get started…

  • Sign up for Free Prayer Tips from the National Day of Prayer Task Force.
  • Follow the NDP Task Force on Twitter to receive regular updates.
  • Watch (and share) this one minute promotional video from NDP.
  • Keep up with the NDP Blog by Shirley Dobson.
  • Learn about Freedom365, a prayer movement that challenges students and young adults to go deeper.

And now (drum roll please), I'd like to announce that during the month of May, the WM Tip of the Week will feature a new prayer resource each week. You'll receive a downloadable prayer journal, a creative prayer themed event idea and more. So make your National Day of Prayer plans now, and stay tuned here for more prayer tools and ideas beginning May 5.
