Event: SPA Day
Dani Helm
Do you need a "time out" from the hectic pace of daily life to relax with soft music and candlelight? Recently I spoke at a women's retreat, a half day SPA event focused on a Spiritually Prepared Attitude (SPA). The theme was so much fun and creative that I wanted to share it. This was also an outreach event and those who had never been in the doors of the church were pleasantly surprised to see a SPA!
Preparation: In advance of the retreat, I had the privilege to pray along with the gals who were planning. I believe this was the key to its success. I knew they were serious not only about having fun at the SPA, but about connecting and equipping women as Christ followers. No detail was too small to pray about. It was the attention to the little things that set this event apart.
Schedule:
- 9:00 am -- 1:00 pm
- Worship
- Speaker/response time
- Spa stations and food station (1 hr.)
- Speaker/response time
- Door prizes
Location: Church sanctuary
Attendance: approximately 50, church size: 200+ (Childcare was provided)
Decorations: The church sanctuary was transformed into a SPA. Greenery was everywhere and a birdbath with water sat at the front under an archway. Relaxing Christian music played softly in the background, even as I spoke. I loved it! Hundreds of small votive size candles were everywhere. It created such a warm glow and added to the relaxing mood.
Spa Stations: During our free time, we had the opportunity to visit different spa stations. Spa stations were not overdone, which allowed us to try them all. We were able to connect with other ladies and do so at an unrushed pace.
- Nail salon - Someone had supplied a huge assortment of nail polish. We could do our nails in any color, sparkle or style.
- Hand waxing
- Foot massages
- Feathers in the hair (the most popular)
- Bathrooms were stocked with soaps and lotions to try.
Food: The personal touches the gals added made the event truly unique.
- They had a "Brewista", who made lattes and smoothies at her coffee bar set up in the entry way. The smell was delicious and the drinks were wonderful!
- Flavored teas and waters were also available.
- Finger food was plentiful and beautifully presented with a chocolate fountain in the center.
Biblical Teaching: Ephesians 2:9-10. We are God's masterpiece. We are His, renewed in Christ! God's Word shows us what it looks like to have a Spiritually Prepared Attitude and things that keep us from it.
Is there anyone who doesn't need an attitude adjustment every once in awhile? It was a special day to renew not only my body, but my mind and spirit and definitely a SPA day I won't forget!
Special thanks to the gals at First Church of God, Granby, MO for the best SPA day I've ever had.
